Highlights of Taxpayer Relief Act
(Act 1 - 2006)

  1. Utilizes gaming dollars and local shift (PIT/EIT) to fund plan.

  2. Expands Senior Citizens Property Tax and Rent Rebate ($15,000 to $35,000 over 65, in July 1, 2007).

  3. Provides extra rebates of 50% to seniors whose property tax bill exceeds 15% of their income.

  4. Created ballot question to ask voters how to generate revenues for homestead/farmstead exclusions by PIT/EIT.

  5. Capped real estate tax increases to index.

  6. Allows for “10 Exceptions” to deal with increased costs for specific reasons.

  7. Establishes the Tax Study Commission.

  8. Provides an installment payment option to pay for property tax.
